To Glog or Not to Glog

My newest discovery is http://www.glogster.com. This site is used to create online posters. Any poster project that teachers assign can be used as a glog project instead. Why create online posters? First, the glog uses no ink. It is completely online. Also, the glog allows students to add text, music, sound, video, and hyperlinks. What poster board projects can do all that? I've created two sample glogs to get us started. My first glog was created around the… Continue

LYRC and 2.0: How Many Ways?

How many different ways can you find to promote the Louisiana Young Readers' Choice books using Web 2.0 applications? So far, I've used Slide.com and Animoto. I'm loading the samples to the main page to share. The code is available as well. Shelfari and Glogs are other neat ways to advertise. Please upload your creations.

Pulpwood Queens Girlfriend Weekend 2008

My best friend and noted author, Rickey Pittman, (www.rickeypittman.com) invited me to Kathy Patrick's Pulpwood Queens Girlfriend Weekend in Jefferson, TX. I had never heard of this amazing lady or her group of Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys. Kathy started the first Hair Salon/Book Store in the country! You've got to check out her website at… Continue

Slide.com

Our Web 2.0 inservice also included a demonstration of another free, easy-to-use resource: Slide.com. Slide.com allows you to import your own pictures into the site, then create a wide variety of slide shows using various themes, frames, backgrounds, effects, and even music, if you choose to add music. The program will generate the html code whcih can then be imbedded on a website or wiki. I used Slide to create a slide show for the Lousiana Young Readers' Choice books… Continue

Trailfire

I read about Trailfire, http://www.trailfire.com, on Joyce Valenza's Neverending Search Blog this summer. I tried it out by creating a "Trailfire" of websites I used for my "Back-to-School" inservice on Web 2.0 tools. This is a really neat site with many useful possibilities. I would love for others to share how they are using Trailfire.
